Your résumé is the trailer to your movie
Even marketing professionals and writers find it challenging to write a résumé – because it’s a different kind of writing for a different kind of document. At its core, a résumé is a marketing tool, kind of like the trailer to a movie. Why do people go see a movie? Either they know the star, friends told them the movie is good, or they were compelled by the trailer. Job hunting is the same. You will find a position based on your reputation, referral network, or your résumé. While you should definitely be leveraging the first two components (try LinkedIn and networking events), what does your résumé say about you? It should be highlighting the reasons to call you for an interview – while not giving away everything.

“Amanda offers an excellent service at a great value. At first I was not sure if I wanted to make the investment in a custom resume, as I have fewer than 10 years’ working experience, and with a major in communication, I thought that I could write an above-average resume on my own. However, after sending Amanda my first draft for a free critique, I realized that in order to set myself apart in this tough job market, it would be necessary to go to a specialist. The Grammar Doctors gave me exactly what I was looking for: a resume that epitomized what makes me me! I know I can get the job if I can just get the interview. I feel confident that I will find my dream job, even in this competitive market. I am so pleased with my experience, and I would recommend Amanda to anyone who is looking for a way to get a leg up on the competition!”

What is the process?
There is a specific strategy involved in writing a résumé. For most clients, it’s pretty similar; however, a square peg cannot be fit into a round hole! By working with us, you not only receive résumé writing, you receive résumé coaching. Following an initial review of your current résumé and quick overview of career goals, we start the writing process with a two-hour conversation to discuss your career path and determine what you want to be when you grow up to get a real sense of our direction and how to move forward. Then we’ll go through each of your past positions as they relate to your future goals. During the process, we’ll define your unique strategy, including chronological or functional format, how long your résumé should be, and your brand. You’ll start to see yourself in a new way and be better prepared for interviews and performance evaluations. Some clients even gain a sense of career direction by clearly defining past accomplishments!

“Amanda took an unpolished input, got on the phone with me and spent more than an hour stepping through the details and trying to extract what I was trying to say. From that start and on the agreed upon schedule, she created a concise, punchy and well-written product that will serve me well as I amp up my latest endeavor. Amanda showed an excellent grasp of business and marketing in the process. I highly recommend her. I hope to find other writing/editing activity to send her way in the future.”

What’s different about The Grammar Doctors?
Starting with our time together, almost everything about the way we do business is different. You won’t find any worksheets or questionnaires, and we build every résumé from a blank sheet of paper. As a collaborative venture, we get to know each other and you are included in all aspects of writing. Also, since it’s common to think of things after the process, you have 30 days in which to return with edits or changes. We value you as a client and strive to include your personality in your documents to truly differentiate you from the competition and market you in the best way possible.

The Grammar Doctors stands by the quality of our work, with three of five clients securing positions within two months (even given the current economy!). With an attention to detail, all documents are proofread before finals are delivered to ensure any potential spelling and grammar errors are caught and removed. Also, if you are dissatisfied, tell us and we will remedy the situation to create a document that meets your needs.

Thank you so much for your services. With your résumé and cover letter, and – most importantly – support, my wife got a job within two weeks. Your service and knowledge are top notch.
